The Rideau Lakes never cease to surprise me. Every season, every shift in light, every stretch of shoreline feels different. It is hard to capture all the moments, but honestly that is part of what keeps pulling me back to paint them.

This piece came from one of those evenings where everything felt alive. The wind pushing through the pines, the movement in the water, the warmth of the sky against the cooler blues below. I have wanted to play with these brighter colours for ages and finally decided to just lean into it.

A lot of my work is really about trying to capture a sense of place. Not just what a landscape looks like, but what it feels like to stand there. The reflections are loose and broken on purpose. The trees are exaggerated and bending with the wind because that energy felt more important to me than perfect realism.

That is the thing I love most about painting landscapes. Sometimes a place is not memorable because of the details. It is memorable because of the feeling it leaves you with.

This one really changes depending on the light in the room and where you stand. It has a lot more presence in person than I could ever fully capture online.
