New work just went up on my site
This piece started the way most of mine do with a place that has stayed with me for years. We have been on the canal for over 40 years and this island has always stood out. The wind swept pines, the rolling rock face and those big open skies you feel it before you even think about painting it
Lately I have been pushing colour more. Letting it get bolder, warmer and a bit more expressive. The sky here is not just a sunset it sets the tone for the whole piece. I wanted that heat up top to contrast with the cool movement in the water below
The reflections became a big part of the process not perfect mirrors but broken light moving with the surface. Same with the rocks I leaned into their natural flow letting the shapes guide the composition rather than locking them in too tightly
And those trees they are not standing still. I pushed them with the wind exaggerating the movement to bring more life into the island
This one really shifts depending on where you stand. It has real presence on the wall
Would love to hear what you see in it
